That's what I'm starting to think I am...it's been totally dead flat seas for weeks on the SE coast of FL with no forecast to change...until it was absolutely confirmed that I was on my way....then they found DEAN!
However..... after some deliberation and looking at the most recent predicted storm path...here's my take...
I think Dean could be good for catchin' on our trip. Bear in mind I haven't been able to access the NOAA Marine f/c tonight..guess their servers are overloaded or something. I dunno...but whatever...here's my guess as to why this could be a good thing.
First the approach of Dean should create a prevailing SE wind on the E coast of FL. Definitely a positive since this will push the western edge of the gulf stream closer to the SE FL shore. It will also push weedlines closer to shore. Those are MAJOR positives for the small boaters like us.
Second, the most recent models I've seen have the storm taking a track south of the Lesser Antilles and Cuba being almost exactly due S of FL by Sunday AM and SSW of FL by Sunday PM. Which I think should mean a SSW or WSW prevailing wind...which should make it calm near shore on the east coast.
This is exactly the combination we want for access and catchin'.....first a SSE wind and then a SW or WSW wind to make it lay back down.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
At least until I change my mind.
And besides...even if I'm wrong and it's too rough to go offshore we'll still have all of the Intra-coastal waterway to play in and I KNOW there are plenty of snook, trout, tarpon and jacks to harass there.,,not to mention the redfish, ladfish and occassional juvi grouper or two.
WOOO-HOOOOOO I'm on VACA!!!
