Saturday, I got through with the stuff I had to do in Chattanooga and hooked up with a friend and two of his buddies to fish the Hiwassee in the afternoon and evening.  First time to wet a line since June and knew I was in the right place when we got out of the truck and could smell the pines/spruces and campfires.   Aaaaahhhhhhhhh.   Rolling two generators till 3:00 so fished falling water for the first little bit.  Caught 6 total with 3 of the six in falling water.  Big fish a massive 9".  Fished a hopper/dropper combo and most were off the hopper.  They pulsed at 6:00 so we waited till the water got to us and then went downstream to the Trophy Section to finish out daylight.  Got one fish there on some kind of rabbit fur streamer.  Got back to Nashville at about 1 am.  Long trip for small fish, but fun anyway.  Will go back when the weather cools - the possibility of big fish excites me.  Will need to take a heavier rod.  My 5 wt didn't throw the bulkier streamers too well.    Can't say we have the river to ourselves, but it certainly wasn't crowded - no canoe hatch nor many fishermen (only saw about a dozen other than us).

I'm longing to take a trip east. Probably the Clinch but I'm up for suggestions? Everyone I talk to says it's tailwaters or nothing right now. As for big fish on a fly rod? I think you would have a hard time beating the Caney right now. Thanks for the update on the Hiwassee and yes the Hopper or terresstials are doing good even though you don't hear anything about them on this board ;D
