Fished Priest today for Carp and whatever. The water has cleared in the river finally and I was able to spot those Golden Bones up mudding on the flats. They would readily take a fly if you could get it within sight without spooking them. I’ve discovered that slapping a fly on the water doesn’t really seem to spook the fish but if you dump a cast close to them the sound of the line piling up on the water spooks the crap out of them. I guess they hear stuff falling into the water all the time but nothing natural sounds like line piling up on the surface. I do this mostly when I am casting to a fish 40 ft away and I discover a fish just 15 ft in front of me.
The small Shad are in the river and the Bass and everything else is starting to feed on them. I landed three LM bass on a shiny little Shad like fly made from Angel Hair and it looked like it was going to be a good day... Then the Ski boats showed up with speakers blasting so I retreated to the house.
