Priest 11/10/07

I didn't fish much this weekend but I did get out for a few hours Sat afternoon to check on the Priest bite. Put in at Fall Creek and went to the three forks area. Lots of Shad (bait) at the mouth of Fall but I didn’t see as much in the Stones as I expected. There’s a big flat in the mouth of the Stones that was covered up with large Carp. I didn’t have a carp rod strung up so we didn’t even try it. Judging from the number we spooked I think it would have been a great time if we’d of had more time. They’ll disappear soon till spring.
The water is about 10” – on this flat so if you go in there you better be light or you’ll end up with wet muddy legs!

Spring Creek had the majority of bait so we decided to fish it. The shad were up on the flats on both sides of the channel with LM Bass busting in the shallows and something big that I assumed were Hybrid or Stripers coming up every now and then closer to the channel. It wasn't a big school but I'm pretty sure they were big fish, presumably Striper.
We tried to get one to bite but the feeds were just  a few quick rolls on the surface and then they'd disappear for a while. Not the feeding frenzy I'd hoped for. Looking back I think next trip I’ll cast my fly in the area of the rolls and let it flutter down rather then strip it back. We did catch a few White and Yellow Bass and a few LM Bass.

As the sun started to set we motored a short distance up the Stones and as usual for this time of year we found Gar feeding at the last Green buoy. I didn’t have a graph but there are usually some Striped fishes around this area. We didn’t see anything but Gar feeding so we moved on back to the boat ramp

My impression is that there are some fish in the area and it will steadily improve as the temps get colder. Once the Shad have to move off the flats to find warmer water or the lake starts to lower then it’ll be on.

We couldn't decide if it was Duck season or Wabbit season so we let these guys go. ;D

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

Nice report Mike. I think I feel an itch and my throat and may need to stay home.  ;)
