Fishing in Dec
« on: July 28, 2006, 10:54:26 AM »
A gentleman from the flyfisherman.com bulletin board recommended this forum as a means of answering a question for me.

I will be visiting relatives in the Manchester/Tullahoma area in Dec. I am hoping that after hunting we will have time to do a little fishing (weather permitting). My question is what wt rod should I use and what flies should I have with me.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hey macfly,

Glad you made it over here.

I forgot to ask in our email earlier if you were targeting trout specifically or just wanted to catch whatever might be easiest to pursue that time of year.

Either way, there are some very knowledgeable anglers here that have far more experience on Tennessee waters than I do so I am sure you'll be glad you joined. They'll be along sometime today or tonight, probably. Most of these guys are either fishing or working right now but they are very cordial and helpful.

Tell your Son-In-Law about the site too.

Ron

Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."

Ron,

Thank you again for the info and the lead.

To answer your question; yes I will be going for anything that will hit. The last time we went we used fluorescent green tubers and either caught or got hits from small bass and crappie. Since we would be in the same general area I would think bass and crappie.

I will ask my son in law about your Tims Ford lake suggestion and see what he says.

I'm tying flies at 10:00pm for tommorow at 8:00am after all day today on the river so I'll reply later. Maybe some of the others will chime in.
