Must be something about record catfish and crappie fishing.
In 1982 a guy caught the Texas Record for the time Catfish 91+ llbs at Lake Lewisville with a small Mitchell spinning reel 12# test and crappie hook while CRAPPIE fishing.
In the 90's I vaguely remember reading about a young guy who caught the newest Texas state record cat in 4 foot of water while Crappie fishing from the bank. I think it was 105 lbs.
BTW, the new Texas state, and IFGA all-tackle record Blue Cat (maybe still pending) is 121 lb 8 oz on Lake Texoma on 20# test, but the guy was fishing for cats.
