Eclipse Tonight!
« on: February 20, 2008, 09:34:13 PM »
Eclipse tonight!  Totality is at 9:00 and it is going on right now.  The clouds are hit and miss.  So get out and show your kids also the big “star” to the lower left of the moon is Saturn.   ;D

Just came inside from taking LRM out for the show. Thanks for the heads up on the "star" as I had no idea it was Saturn.

Been watching it now for a while. Clouds are pretty loose here in Nashville so I have been able to watch.

Getting ready to head back out now to see the "full. Can't wait until Spring to see Mars.

I finally got the 400mm yesterday so I did go out and take some shots with it. I have no idea how they turned out because my fingers were too frozen to use the cameras buttons when I came back in. I'll process then later and post them if they turned out. I used to think Moon shots were a pain but eclipse shots are even worse!

We had a great view out of our kitchen window, so we could stay inside.  Saturn was a bonus, we could clearly see the rings thru our telescope!

Toddro that’s great to hear.  I am an astronomy nut so I love this kind of stuff.
Flyfishtn, mars tonight will be above and to the left of orion.  It is not that bright right now.  Betelgeuse (left shoulder of orion) will appear a little dimmer than mars.  However you can use this star as a guide because they will appear almost the same brightness.  I got some great astronomy software for Christmas.

If you are looking for a telescope orion has some of the best and at the best prices. They are one of the big three. I have an orion SkyQuest XT8 IntelliScope with Object Locator its an 8" dobsonian.  Its great for Deep space objects (galaxies and nebulas).  I would highly recommend Orions if you or anyone is looking for a telescope.
