Collins River Report
« on: August 05, 2007, 09:09:28 AM »
Collins River at Shellsford is high and slightly turbid due to rains on the Cumberland plateau. Water temperatures are cooler as well with nice current. No luck on top with blue and white poppers or heavy white streamers. Heavily weighted black streamers on the bottom did the trick. Bait fishermen reported slow fishing as well with success coming with minnows on the bottom.
Fishing will be in good shape as season progresses toward fall.

The recent rains cooled the Collins enough to be noticable... I don't carry a thermometer. Water should be good for at least a week or so. The increase in current seems to help the smallmouth more than the temperature during August. Hope you guys can make a trip.

What would be the best area to put in and run? Should I put in near Rock Island or could you suggest something that doesn't have as much traffic?

Thanks!

Rock Island would probably be the best place to put in.
I usually wade fish and my access points are much too shallow for larger boats.
If you plan on using kayaks or canoes, then Shellsford would be good to visit.
Also, you might wish to drop in at the HWY 8 bridge.
Let us know how it goes.
