Limbhanger, karma on the board is important from the standpoint that you are "playing" well with others and generally contributing to promote the board, the sport and fly fishing or fishing in general. As well, as the old saying goes, "karma's a bitch", meaning that it negativity and a general malaise or combative behavior will come back to bite you one day, some how.
I hope you will stay around, get to know everyone and contribute to the growth of our sport, but negativity towards others and a seriously condescending attitude without sharing who you really are is cowardly at best.
