The nolichucky
« on: June 10, 2008, 02:38:39 PM »
for those of you that have read this elsewhere just read it again ;D

This is a late report but better late than never.

Sunday May 26th. Etnflyman(Lewis),Dogdj(Dan) and myself hit the Nolichuckey for some smallie action. This was going to be a great day no matter what because we all grew up fishing it together and have not floated together in almost a year so we were all jacked up about it. We met at the grocery store at 8:30 am to get supplies.I knew right off it was to be a good day as they were already drinking  :P After a quick stop for beer and food we headed to the river. When we arrive at the put in there is a dead pit bull that someone had dissposed of at the ramp and there was an rv full of campers not 20' from it, and it was foul! We questioned ther intelligance ::)  We put the raft in and Dan and I ran our own shuttle to the take out. When we returned to the put in ( a state right of way under a bridge) a guy comes over to my truck and says, " guys if you don't mind leaving the road open the ambulance is on the way,I think my buddy is dead." We said "sure" and started rigging up. Well before we shoved off the ambulance showed up,pulled a man out of the rv and started doing chest compressions. He was gone. His son was there and it didn't even phase him but it did us.

We put in shoved off and started fishing with no one saying a word for about an hour then Lewis said" that was f***ed up". We all agreed and started catching some fish. As I said before today was going to be good no matter what so we cracked another cold one and kept slinging flies.

The bight was not as good as previous days but it didn't matter, best friends on our home water drinking, cussing, and catching fish here and there. We stopped and waded a few spots along the float just to cool off if nothing else and the usuall spots that we pick up pigs in didn't yeild a damn thing so we just kept drinking and throwing poppers and gurglars at the bank in slack water. I was happy that this is the first time in the raft that I didn't have to row AT ALL,this never happens becuase I am better at the oars than I am at fishing

When we reached the take out the cooler was empty so we started doing the math. We had drank 34 beers and an entire quart of raspberry likker on the float 8)  We loaded the raft and went back to the put in to get my truck and get this, the dude's buddies were still there, eight hours later by a bon fire drinking it up ???  I'll tell you guys this, if one of you die while we are camping, even if you said keep on partying, I AM GOING HOME! CAMPING TRIP IS OVER!

Well, all in all it was a good day with great friends on our favorite river. Here are a few pics(Dan has the fish pics so I doubt we will see them )

Damn Kyle I don't know whether to laugh or cry. You East TN guys are hard core.

I'll pour a sip for the dead camper.

What an unusual story...It doesn't surprise me too much, being that it was on the Noli.  I think I met that guys other camping buddies on the Clinch in VA---as I paddled upstream from my launch site, dude and his wife are naked in the river :o.
This heat's got the smallies turned off--the Clinch and North Fork have also been a little slow.  Maybe the rain will get 'em biting better.  Sounds like you guys made the most of it.

Kyle, why only 34 beers, I figure that was all they had at the store ;D Its hard to believe you guys fish while drinking, I would figure fishing would take atleast one of your hands, and that only leaves one to drink with ;D        Thanks for the story.

BTW, I am wanting to put together another Caney camp out real soon, so start saving up some beer money. ;)
I just don't care!
