To all who are keeping the Elk River board moving! Reports are what keeps folks coming back to read. I wish more lurkers would use the board as well as the Elk River fishers do. Thanks again.

Mike;

Given that the Elk can be an exceedingly variable resource I think it's wise to keep folks up to date.  For many of us it's the only resource within nominal driving distance other than the Duck... and we all know the situation there.

We need to remain vigilant relative to the Elk, as it wouldn't take much to ruin it in a heart beat.  Right now, things seem to be on a good track, and I'm hopeful that they will stay that way.

I'm fully confident that we could develop the Elk into a selff sustaining fishery if the water flows could be maintained.  There does seem to be some evidence of Brown reproducition, and if the flows could be maintained that situation could improve.  Given the situation on the White in Arkansas, with their reproducing Browns, we could have a viable tailwater right here in TN.

Hey Mike...
Thanks for having this board where we can find all sorts of info...not just about the Elk.  I live vicariously through all of the reports when we are not able to get on the water.  I'm with Ralph on this one....the Elk is the closest trout water to our home and I have become quite attached to it.  I WISH we were closer to the Caney...I could become VERY attached to that river!! We will continue to post reports. I think we are headed up there this Sat.

I dunno Rachel, I was just about to say that that sounds like my fishing buddy from Soddy Daisy.  Too far for him to come to the Caney, but not too far for me to go to the Hiwasee.  ?????????  Until I looked at the distance it would be for you - that is a long way for you to get to the Caney

Do any of you Alabama folks ever fish the Sipsey Fork tailwater down there?  I've always been curious about it.

We fished it once  back in January.  It is about the same distance for us down there as it is to the Elk and for "ease of use", I prefer the Elk.  We had to scramble up and down a very steep bank to get in and out of the river. They have been known to generate down there without sounding the siren.  I would hate to see water coming up and have to scramble up aforementioned bank!  ;D  Maybe there are easier points of entry but this was my experience!
The fish seem to be particularly spooky down there as well and I am not the stealthiest!  Check out riversideflyshop.com and alabamariverfishing.net.

Not a good situation for fishing... they've lost a few folks there over the years to water releases from what I'm told.  Not fisher friendly.
