Just to prove how stupid one can be I managed to drive all the way up to Tims Ford Dam only to discover that all my Elk River flies were back at my office at home.

Thus I had a wonderful opportunity to try to catch trout with the "wrong" flies, and can truly report that coventional dries and wets in sizes 14 and larger are just not the ticket on the river.

A number of short strikes and one good "bump" in the riffle area were all I could manage in 2 hours and I wisely packed up and came home.  A couple other gentlemen using midges were catching a few fish.

Oh My.... dumb, dumb, dumb.

Ralph...
That's a bummer! We are headed to the Elk Saturday for a drift boat trip. I have never been past the bend so I am excited!
