Striped Bass

Fish Conservation History

Um, no.   :)

The correct answer would be Atlantic Salmon.

King Edward I of England ("Longshanks" of Braveheart fame) actually created laws all the way back around 1275 to make it illegal to catch salmon during certain parts of the year.  Alexander II of Scotland passed laws in that country in 1318 to ban certain types of fish traps that were killing salmon smolts in Scottish rivers.

By the time striped bass regulations came along, these laws were a few hundred years old.  :)

Well bd, you are actually wrong. As the question was phrased around 1639 not 1275. So to have answered with Atlantic Salmon would be incorrect.  ;D

But otherwise, you are correct on the date of first restrictions.  ;)

Oh, I misunderstood the question.  So if the question was the same but the Subject line was "Around 2007," the correct answer would be crappie since that's the first fish discussed by the TWRC that year?
