Spring Time Fishing
« on: April 06, 2009, 09:25:50 AM »
The warm water bite is heating up....Minus a few cold fronts pushing things off, the water levels are good, and the fish runs are on schedule.
Walleyes at night (on a couple of secret rivers)---you can hear them move in splashing, you can spot them with a light...but the darn things have been very tight lipped for me so far--only about 1 week left.

Stripers/hybrids/white bass---only a few have moved in--should be good after the warm up.
The buffalo have been attacking our baits after dark--no pics, but atleast 15 caught by the mouth in 1-2 hours of fishing.

Smallies---are just getting started.  Crystal lost some nice ones.

Hope everyone else is getting out there for the short lived runs of fish...I'm having a blast, but sure am burning some gas chasing fish all over the map.

Travis

All right, Travis - time to get it cranked up again, isn't it...

Is that first pic of you on your version of a pedal-style kayak?  :P

North sure is high these days, isn't it?  Interesting thing happened last time out there: I was fishing that exact stretch where Crystal is hooked up there the other day when a jet blew by us upstream.  I've always thought 'well hell, looks like the fish are put down here now for awhile' right after a jet or other boat comes through.  I went ahead and threw my jig'n'pig in right after they went through and hooked up with a nice 2-2.5 lber.  Those fish ain't afraid of nuthin!

Let's get together and fish this spring!

Johnny Garr-O (although, after this weekend, I'm changing his name to Johnny Hanger) and I are doin' purty good, too.  GT has sore lipped all the fish in a local river so we didn't bother going there.  No matter, the fishing has been a blast anyway....

This crazy weather has kept me off my favorite smallie river lately, but the carpin has been pretty good. Heavy caddis hatches have them skimming the surface in the late afternoons.

Lookin' good fellars---glad to see everyone else getting to dabble in the spring bite.

Rusty--I think we'll have to change it to Johnny "bassmaster"....nice smallie!... but, boy, does he have some big knuckles--Ha ha!

Kilday--give me a shout when you head up to fish.  I try to stray from the weekend madness---about 1 week beyond the next warmup--it should be right.  I'm fishing Rogersville this Saturday 5AM til noon if you want to give it a go.

GT nice bugle mouth---if you can get'em on dries that's gotta be a blast.

Nice fish.  I'm thinking similar must have been happening on the Nolichucky Sunday around 6 p.m.  Nice pool above a ledge had numerous head-to-tail rises, big fish with greenish-tan coloring.  Wished I had the flyrod and an emerger.   :'(

Travis: Sat morning early....hmmmmm....let me see what's going on & I'll get back to you - thanks -

T Wiles my knuckles might appear large due to my hands freezing from the 20 plus mph winds!  There were at least 3-4 ft waves in the main lake that day.
