Fish'n in the Rain
« on: August 25, 2008, 07:51:41 AM »
One of my "have to work" buddies and I fished the Elk Sunday morning in the rain.  Other than the insanity of fishing in the rain all went relatively well.  The fish seemed to have to "warm up" to the rain, as they were feeding better the longer it rained.  We got started about 7:30 when if first started sprinkling, and the fish really didn't start to hit well until we were getting ready to leave at about noon.

Midges were coming off the water, but the birds were having a hard time with them and were staying higher it the air to get them.  We used both the bead head and non-weighted soft hackles and collected about 10-12 fish apiece.  This was slower than normal, but the rate was picking up later in the day.  Interestingly enough, most of the fish taking Sunday were rainbows as opposed to the little browns.

A real plus with the rain was an absense of other fisherfolk.

I hear you Ralph I can't wait till it gets cold so even more people will leave the river.
