Elk River Frogmen & women
« on: September 09, 2008, 07:03:51 AM »
yesterday when I taking water temps, I coldn't get a decent parking place at Old Dam Ford, were government SUV's, cars and boats everywhere. Walked upstream to the tip of the island and talked to a couple writing down data, the others were in the river rooting around like a bunch of happy Carp.

I did find out one thing, the small mussel that is found in piles after Raccoon's feast on them, they are not young mussels, they are an exotic overseas variety.

Sounds like we are in for warm waters downstream.
Get your Bass bugs tied up ;)

So are they trying to rid the river of them or are they trying to protect them?

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

protect, said it could be a few years until they get the water throttled to the flow that is best for the mussels.

the mussel they are protecting are the large ones, the ones that are almost gone, I can remember a couple of decades ago, there were places on the river that I could walk and not touch the bottom for mussels.

On my drive over to Farris Creek, I thought about, how ironic, they don't seem worried about removing the invader.

After talking to Tim's wife at their shop in Lynchburg a couple of months ago, I feel sorry for the frogmen and women.  She was mighty ticked off AND according to her so was the TWRA about the last time the temp. start going up because of discharges.  All said and done, in talking to my Corps friend, that as of a few months ago, the upper few miles were going to be alright for trout temperaturewise, but as you said David, you better have some bass bugs and bluegill poppers handy. especially for further downstream.  Just tried to call him, but he was out in the boat on Old Hickory collecting water samples and wasn't getting the best of signals.
