I've been researching the make/model that I want to buy, and I've stumbled upon this manufacturer.

What do you all know about them?  They look sweet!

I've been using Icthus' Perception and have been impressed.  I really like the tracking and the fact that I can get where I need to go with relatively little effort.  However, when I was paddling upstream against 1 gen, that was tough.

I would like to find a way to try one of the Natives, and I know Leo has offered on many occasions to let me go out in his Heritage.

I'm not going out to buy a yak tomorrow, or anything, but I do want to have all the information gathered before dropping some hard earned cash.

Sam, I think that any kayak is going to be tough paddling upstream against generation, the only thing you might find that cuts through  the water well enough to go upstream against generation is going to be a whitewater boat and even then you will have a problem.  If going upstream against generation is a concern, then maybe you may want to look at an alternative.  I have a friend that has a NuCanoe that has mounted a trolling motor on the back of it and another friend that has a Tarpon that has done the same thing.  The only issue with mounting a trolling motor is you just picked up around 80 pounds and that means a lot to a kayak, don't care who makes it.

Alternatives, look at a 10 foot jon with a trolling motor, and you can get into one of those for around $850.  But then you will need either a trailer or a pickup to haul it.  I have a friend that went to this and prefers it over his kayak as it gives him more room in the boat and he claims that he can go in as shallow water with it as he did with his Ocean Kayak, and going back up stream is a piece of cake.  10' Tracker only weighs 80 pounds, 30 pound thrust motor is only $100, battery is around $69, boat is $554.

Somehow I just don't think the wife would go for a full fledged boat just yet.  I can easily grab a roof rack for my Civic, strap a yak to it, and still save gas.

My top two choices are the Native or the Heritage Redfish.

Sam,

Tell your wife you found a heck of a deal on a boat. Explain to her how you understand her feelings but let her know its only time keeping you from getting a boat.  Trust me on this one.  The tongue lashing only last for about a year.

When I bought my boat i told my wife I was going to name it after her.  "Honey I can be with you even when we are not together."  She did not think it was funny, and my boss made a point too, "Craig and I just got done riding Jessica."   Hmmm, nope I think I will go with grace.
