Elk report ?

Hey haven t heard a Elk report in a bit work has had me on lock down hear latley I m thinking of sliding over there next weekend. Anyone been fishing down that way ?

During the week when I get to fish, it's been 5 hours generation in the morning and 5 hours in the evening, so I'm not fishing but getting lots of neglected work around the Pondarosa done.

Fished the last 2 Wednesdays... slow... very slow.  The fish seem to hit best right after they stop generation, and then continue to slow down all day.

The name of the game are size 20 midges.  Both Wed. I tried larger flies, and the only thing they wanted to play with were size 20s and smaller.  There's been a lot of frontal activity, and the generation, so the fish are probably a bit confused.

I've got to go in for a knee replacement on the 15th which will put me out of operation for at least 6 weeks... and then VERY limited wading for another 6 weeks.

My guess is that we're looking for difficult times until there is a measure of consistency either with the weather or the generation.

  good luck on the replacement of that knee.  We will be thinking about you man.  BTW, if you need someone to keep all that boo in shape while you are recovering... ;)

Ralph you picked a good time for the operation. Good luck with the surgery and we are all looking forward to your recovery and subsequent spring fishing reports!

Ralph, don't let just one guy SAFELY look after the 'boo.  I would be glad to be the other volunteer.  I've read that they can't stand long periods of time without being exercised!  Best of luck on the surgery.  The only person I know that had some problems was the one that had both knees done at the same time - plus she was over 80!  You should feel a lot better after the procedure.

Thanks for the reports yall it really saved me a trip in the wrong direction. Ralph having been through Knee surgery myself I know what you are about to go through and you ll be a lot better after its all said and done. Once you get past the first 3 weeks its all down hill from there. Good luck and I know we ll be seeing you on the water soon

Thanks for all the good wishes, and for the volunteers to take care of my bamboo.

First, let me say that this is knee no. 2, so I've been through this before.  I'm hoping to be back on the Elk in about 6 weeks with any luck, and if it takes longer... hey! it takes longer.

Secondly, the 'boo situation, my WIFE also casts nothing but 'boo so everything is in good hands my friends.  Once 28 Feb rolls around she'll be back on the water with me... by that time all her chemotherapy will be over and hopefully she'll be back to her old self.

This was a good excuse for me to buy a new wading staff, as my old one was getting kind of bent and shabby.  So I'll get to try out a new knee and a new wading staff at the same time.

Hope all of you have a great Holiday Season and wear out the fish.  I'll be on the web, and tying flies like a wild man since I can't fish for a while.

my buddy and i have been fishing the elk alot lately and it has been very good. we catch just as many fish there as we do the caney (without all the people), but just not as much size. i know there was a 27" trout(not sure if it was a bow or brown) and a good 22 caught last week. weve been throwing olive streamers all day and doing well.

if you dont mind the drive then i would say the elk is the way to go right now as long as the caney is runnin 2
