I set up with a buddy on the Stones this morning and it was awful fishing. Nothing biting. We decided to change tactics and ran back to the house to get the canoe... floated it from the dam to the Kohl's takeout. We caught 2 stockers, sure was slow fishing today. The water was clear... I could see bottom everywhere we went. The most interesting part of the day was when I saw a turtle on the bottom. I used the paddles like a giant pair of chopsticks to get him off the bottom. It was a snapper, about 10" in diameter. I thought it was just an empty shell, but once I saw the shell was occupied, I put him back in the river. The cold water had him moving slowly.
Reports from other fishermen on the Stones today indicate that it was slow for everyone. There was no generating, and so the water wasn't moving at all. We saw a lot of trout at the dam when we put in... the small stockers... I'll bet we saw 200-300 fish. They were there, but they just didn't seem interested.
Next Saturday I'm hitting the Caney. Can't wait!
