My 700 has a IR remote that came with it from the foactory. It's handy at times but I don't use it alot. To answer you question no I don't know anything about them.

Heck for that price it might be worth the risk to get it. Would like to try some longer exposures as the moon rising this week has been incredible and I don't want to induce a lot of camera shake.

Just buy the 700 it has a remote, problem solved, money spent.
