New Waders
« on: March 02, 2009, 10:54:44 AM »
My 12 year old pair of Simms waders have been leaking on me for about 6 years now and I am wondering about any advice you all have about brands to replace them with....
How are the current Simms models out there?

I love my Simms convertibles.

I just spent a month researching the different brands, styles, and durability of all the waders and everything that i read turned me towrad simms G3.  The simms have a good return policy, a great record of durability, and the largest choice when it comes to sizes.  I am 6'2" with long legs, (settled down ladies I am married) and the xl's in other brands did not fit right.  The feet were tight, the legs were to short and they were just a pain to walk in.  Found a pair of XLL tried them on and the felt like a pair of comfortable pants.  I have heard good things about the convertible waders, however, they just came out on the market and there was not much track record on the me yet.

I would have a hard time dropping 4 benji's on waders, but thanks to bass pro and cabelas for always taking my stuff back,  I was able to get into a pair after 5 years of getting wet.  My two cents.

Talk to Ronnie and Jim at CT and Fly South.  Both have a lot of good info.  If you are going to spend 275.00 save two more months and spend 400.00 you will not regret it.

I found this written on a fly fishing forum. I can't remember the name of the author, however seems like it might have been someone from round here.

"There are only two kinds of waders. New, and leaky."

I thought that was brilliant.

Anyway-My vote also goes to Simms.

I have a pair of G3 Guides with a Muck Bootfoot. Love them.  Especially in the cold weather. NO COLD FEET WHATSOEVER. A little heavy boot wise, but if you are not hiking very far, or if you are floating often, they are very convenient. Slip in and slip out.  Tough waders.

I also have a pair of G4 Pro Stocking foot waders. I like them very well. I don't wear them often now that I have the Muck Boot pair.

I know some people think the rubber boot is for dorks only. Call me a dork. I've owned Muck brand boots for winter work and stall shoveling for a long time.  Good boots. I'm glad they teamed up with Simms.
Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."

Thanks for the input all.... I have heard that new vs. leaky wader advice before and that is why I've waited so long to buy another pair.

On simms’ website they have a good list of videos about how to take care of waders.
After seeing one of them I learned that most of my early wader issues have been leaking because of mold.
"It won't come of the trailer" "WHAT?" Push it!

"Chad, why are my cookies floating?” Oh! @#$% the drain plug!

Ok Dork   HAHAHA, It sounds to me like you have too many pairs of waders. I would steal a pair, but I think they would run a little short on me! ;)
I have been wearing the Orvis waders for 2 full seasons now , and have no worries and no leaks.
I will be purchasing a pair of simms very soon, just because.
I just don't care!
