Who's catching fish?
« on: March 08, 2009, 08:42:18 PM »
Was wondering if anyone was catching fish on Priest lake?  Help a brother out and give me a hint other than they are in the water.    Fished upper Preist lake last week and only managed a few yellows.  If need be I'll take you out in my boat and you can show me ;D.  Just checking for reports.  I fished the lower end yesterday hoping but knowing they haven't started up yet. Still a bit early.  I did get into some nice striper this time last year but not yet.

Go catch a fish,
Gary

It won't be long Gary and they will start showing up everywhere. Right now the rivers are a good place to start but be ready for the crowds.

Gary,

I have fished it hard for the past couple of days and it is tough right now.  Manage to catch a few strays and thats about it.  Watch out for the idiots who have not driven a boat since it was 85 degress.  They are out and in strong force.

Went out again today and it was like someone flipped on a switch overnight. Fished the creeks on the lower end (im usually on the upper end but I'm sure its the same story down there also). Full moon is here, water has warmed and the fish are in full force. Shallow shallow shallow! Every cove I looked at there were bass busting shad left and right. It didnt really turn on until later in the afternoon though. Had a ton of fun but nothing real big - once they started up real good I never put down the rattletrap.

Also saw several guys on the bank pulling in what had to be crappie left and right. If you get a chance to get out during this moonphase before all the rain and small cold fronts start to hit this week I would say go for it! Although I think the fish have pulled the trigger and no cold front is going to stop them now.

Made it down to Priest again today and it didnt let me down. My buddy didnt want to get his boat out- and I wasnt going to fight the wind in my kayak..so I grabbed my dogs and hit the bank. Walked around Suggs/Vivrett creek played with the buck bass and enjoyed this 80 degree weather. Threw spinnerbaits until the wind let up then switched to my trusty ole rattletrap. Caught alot of dinks but had a few decent fish in the mix also.

My crappy cell phone pictures are nothing compared to one a guy on down from me pulled in. I look up and see him walking toward me holding a HUGE largemouth. This big girl was a monster! At least 6 or 7+ pounds easy...he walked at least 100 yards so I could take a pic for him. Wish I would have got one with my phone also but we wanted to get the big girl back in the water. It took her a minute but she eventually swam off just fine!

Looks like a pretty good day from the bank.

I was in the same area this evening - man, the wind was tough!  I tried to walk all the way down to Suggs, but the mud n the flats was so soft, I started sinking knee-deep!  I saw a lot of fish rising at the mouth of Suggs, just couldn't get a cast into that wind out to them...  I left and found an area with a little less wind exposure.
