Cheatham Dam Cumberland river
« on: March 20, 2009, 12:08:04 AM »
I'm only 8 miles from the cheatham dam and have been fishing it the last few days. The skipjack are there is good number. Sorry but i love taking my 15 old girl there and watch her throw a bead head white woolly bugger. She pulled in 20 or so all over a pound or two tue in under two hours. I have been catching stripers and white bass in ok numbers all stripers under 10 pounds. I think i could do better on the stripers if i was to go with a heavier line. I mostly catch skipjack close to the surface, if you get past the skipjack and get that fly down close to the bottom you will do alot better with the stripers. I heavy white jig 1/4 oz or so does very good as well. Not seeing the thinfin shad yet on the walls and all. if your into catfishing the blues are up the river. Took some skipjack from the dam and motored down to lock B and pulled in a 12, 15, 18, 26 pound blues. They are running a couple generators so the water is moving out. With the warm weather and all do like i do if you can and go during the week even if in the late aftenoon after work.

Now thats a report Thanks! Did you keep any of the cats?
In the fell clutch of circumstance/I have not winced nor cried aloud,/Under the bludgeonings of chance/My head is bloody, but unbowed.

I'm a CPR type guy. I Catch Picture Release. But if your looking for a mess of catfish hummmm sure we could work something out!!!!!!!!!The smaller ones say 15 pounds and under are the best eating. Water below cheatham dam is my home water and know it very well and only 10 minutes from home. Spring all those cat's in Lake Barkley and Ky lake run up the cumberland river and stop at the cheatham dam to find love. I go a mile or so below the dam and fish the rock bottoms on the outside bend of the river in current with structure!! The fish willl be there. I spot them on my depth finder and target them. Have found that once in place you need to turn your depth finder off, it will force the fish to move!! Best fish last year was 71 pounds.

That sounds like some fun fishing & it's good to hear your daughter likes to go chase 'em with you.
