Great Local Trout Fishing - NOW!!!
« on: April 08, 2009, 09:07:11 PM »
This is for all of you who are bored tying flies and doing honey do's while waiting on the Caney to quit generating around the clock.
You can get out right now and catch some chunky, scrappy, beautifully colored rainbow trout.
Normally, like most trout fishers, when I find a great fishing hole I keep the location to myself. But, this time I am making an exception. Why? Because these fish aren't going to survive the summer.
Yes, I am talking about winter stocked trout. For those of you that are turned off to fishing for "hatchery fish", read no further. But..... for those of you that want to get out on the water (a beautiful river with everything you could want from ripples, deep and shallow runs and deep holes), enjoy a beautiful setting and hone some of your fishing skills, then give Nice Mill Dam on the West Fork of the Stones River a try.
Apparently, this area has not been fished a lot lately. I have gone several times between high water rains and have almost had it to myself. I know that there are still a lot of fish in there because I have been catching, and releasing a lot of fish.
The fish are really doing well. The quality of hatchery fish this year has been excellent and they seem to be doing well in that section of the river.
As a side note, I saw a gentleman with a spinning outfit catch a 4 1/2 to 5 lb small mouth today. It was a beauty.
Just thought that i would share this info with the folks on this forum.

ps...be careful if you go. Those rocks are slick.

Great report WM1 thanks! I pass the place everyday. I might slip my gear in the car tommorrow.

At first I thought it was Wheel of Fortune but there ain't no Vanna White. Must be a game of hangman! :o
Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."
