What do these jets weigh, that you guys are strapping on the back of the larger Riverhawks?

I think the only Jet I would put on a Riverhawk would be a 25 two stroke. I think one of them is about 120 to 140 pounds plus a transom mod.

Mike,

Why I ask is, the new Mud Buddy Lite version of their short tails are 23hp and weigh 160lb. I run a 16 x 36" Jon and at times wonder how a Riverhawk would do on the Elk, I did look at Nischan's old boat couple of years ago, someone had it for sale that lived off Elm Hill area. The bottom had been repaired quite a bit. Always plan to ask Chris about how much he drags when I see him at the TU meetings but always forget.

Woodsman,

With that surface drive, you can probably run the river even when they aren't generating, can't you?

I learned my last trip to the Caney that with the old fashioned prop engine, that the Caney isn't deep enough everywhere if they aren't generating. If I had money for an engine, I'd do as Mike suggested. 25 horse jet.
Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."

Woodsman, give Susan a call, she runs her riverhawk there all the time but doen't have a jet on it.  She also fishes a lot with Warren and he can probably tell you as much.

Ron,

Actually with the longtail I just sold, I could run from the Old Stone Bridge put in at Hwy 231 in downtown Fayetteville to Tims Ford Dam and only have to get out on two gravel bars to help it out, not saying I didn't grind gravel on a few or have to go over a few trees in the water but I could make it, hey it sure gets me away from the crowds and Lord knows we are hurting for access on the Elk.

Both gravel bars are above General Lowes Island. Good water to leave to the visitors and corn dunkers.

I will talk to Susan at the next meeting I see her about her Riverhawk. She is probally the most friendly person at the meetings plus she gets a kick out of my 5 year old son. He is such a flirt.

I believe Susan has been running the motor on her Clacka on the longer floats, i tell her it's a sin to run a motor on a drftboat, she just grins.
Woodsman, i'd go with that mud buddy if you're running that well with a prop, then again, w/o being to nosey, what does the mud buddy cost?
I know Mercury dropped the 2 stroke jets this year, they may or may not be plentiful.
GHawk, bought a jet unit from CA to put on his Merc motor, it's the same outfit that makes the jets for all the manufacturers.

Grumpy,

The 12hp Hyper Longtail was $2200, the 23hp Shorttail is $3400.

This year we had some "seaweed" areas in the river that was hard to get a canoe across, would cover the river and go for 100 yards or more. Even would slow the Mud Buddy to a crawl. How would a jet do it that stuff?

Never seen it this thick.

your cheaper with the mud buddy & you'd be cussing pulling the weeds outta the jet >:(
Now if you're on plane in 10" of water, you're more than likely OK ;D

more like 4 to 6" of water and I was fine, I could do better at higher speeds with the "backwash" area being where the prop was and I could keep on trucking.
