South Holston Float Question
« on: April 19, 2009, 07:37:18 PM »
I have never floated the South Holston, but I am planning on in the next few months.  I was wondering if there are any shoals to avoid and such, under generation of course, I know it is a shallow river from wade fishing.  I have access to a ramp on buddy's land off weaver pike and was wondering if it would be better to go from the emmett road access to here or from the farm to bluff city. I would appreciate any info on anything that could eat a boat; not honeyholes.
Gracias.

Most of the better water will be from Emmet to your ramp. What kind of craft will you be using? There are a few places to get familiar with before your float. I use a hyde boat and have no issues, but floating in a smaller canoe or pontoon could be really dangerous. The generation schedule is not very conducive to floating right now since they are filling the lake. Send me an e-mail (bhulse@charter.net) and I'll try to help you anyway I can.

Dont think about a float if they are not generating.  There really isn't any technical water to worry about.  You may have to wait until June for better flows though.
