You gota be kidding me!

My most unfavorite quote:

Quote from:  Eastman Douchebag
Valentine said diethyl ether dissolves in water, and except for the fish kill, the company doesn’t expect any additional environmental impact from the discharge.

"douchebag" would be putting it nicely...  >:(

Events like this happen quite frequently.  I know of a few occaisions where people near the plant mentioned seeing discharge in the water, and it never made headlines.  A quick call to TVA, and WOW! suddenly they're generating heavy to dilute the problem away.

It's truly pathetic.  It's a miracle the Holston has any game fish at all.  I hope all the recent rain helped to prevent a catastrophic fish kill.

I have  7lb smallmouth I've been hunting that are right in the wake of this crap that has poisoned the river. >:(

Maybe those hearty 'trashfish' as they are sometimes called can make it.  I sure hope so.  I wonder if we'll see TWRA issue a special 'do not eat' warning for this stretch.

Friend in Kingsport reported seeing numerous large bows floating downstream belly-up though...    :'(

I do hope they have some pretty stiff fines for this sort of thing???  Or does this fall into the "good ol' boy" catagory???  I suspect a couple hefty fines and you wouldn't see many of these problems any more.

 >:( >:( AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:(

Watching the news the other night, and the attractive news anchor pleasantly anounces,"Eastman chemical company has had ANOTHER! chemical spill where high pressure ruptured a tank of unspecified chemicals into the Holston.
She finished the report stating that only a few dozen fish were killed....with a pleasant smile on her face.

ABSOLUTE HORSE SHIT!!!

This company has so much economic pull that even when the public is informed...the rules of environmental pollution do not apply to them.

Unbelievable.

You need to call Erin Brockovich

Two strikes in less roughly two-and-half weeks!!  Unfathomable that similar accident would happen again.

Does anyone know if this is par for the course for EPA / media coverage on such spills elsewhere in the country?

At the VERY LEAST, Eastman owes the community and the fishermen a full explanation of what the hell is going on, how they are making sure it WON'T happen any more, and an apology - or hell, just show some sensitivity to the issue & act like you care.  I mean, if ever I fart in public, which I really try to keep to a minimum, like Eastman tries to do with their spills, I at least apologize and show some humility and remorse!  And if the stench of my offense made someone sick, I would at least pay their doctor bill and write them a thank you card.

I guess PR is not high on the priority list over there.  This hush-hush approach
really gets under my skin if you couldn't tell.  Man Up, Eastman!
