A chance to sound off

The Corps of Engineers is actually asking for public comment on the ways it manages its waterways in the area--at that includes JPP, Old Hickory, Cordell Hull and of course the Caney Fork.

I hope a lot of the dialogue that has gone on here about conditions on the Caney find their way to the Corps. I, for one, am outraged at the way the construction at the dam has gone, including the runoff and the destruction of an entire mountain.

If facing Dam on river the big hill just to the right has been stripped for thier equip and ect.

It's a pretty sad sight and even worse reality that we'll have to contend with for the next several years. Of course the Dam was within a few hours of total collapse and killing everyone in TN,GA, and AL...

Actually, they took out that section of the mountain so they could grout the caverns below that mountain to try and stop the leaks in the dam.  They looked at alternatives but they were too expensive so that was the way they had to do it.  There is a full report of the construction recommendations on the corps web site, over 270 pages of it and it is booooring!!

The runoff is a different story.  One reply I got form the Corps said that they were in compliance with the water quality of the runoff and they were doing everything they could to completly elimnate it but it was nearly impossible to do so.

 Well they may be doing everything that they can to elimanate the silt runoff. If it is just stained water there's not alot that can be done , but if it is full fledged silt CALL TDEC. I'm in the excavation buisness and there is a lot of strict laws that you have to follow on run off,especially next to streams even for the corp.

yep thats right!  it is a federal and a state violation.  According to the law the water from a runoff has to be equal to or better than the tributary it dumps into!  I guess that law is about like the immigration law!!   >:(
