Thanks for pointing that out, I forgot to post about it... I was busy fishing.

There couldn't be a better time to make your voice heard. Email, call, or visit the commission members. Make some positive noise over this.

What are the odds from this point on that the proposed changes will be cemented and become rule for next year?

That's right, we all need to send a few letters ASAP. No big deal just let them know we support this change 100%.

I hope it passes as well. I was just introduced to trout only last year. Before then I had never even seen a live trout. My fishing upbringing was in West TN and Northwest MS where trout didn't exist. Sinced then I've invested heavily in the sport...specifically fly fishing. This year compared to last, I've noticed major differences in quantity and quality of fishing on the Caney. Although this year I managed to catch my largest brown to date ( 18 inches ::) ) the overall experience has been tough. It would seem that stiffer regs would only help the cause  ???

They would help the cause greatly being your chances of catching an above average fish climbs significantly.

That said the river is a very technical and tough place to fish more times than not. Someone has said if you can catch trout consistenly on the Caney then you can catch them anywhere in the world. I don't know about that but the numbers last I seen was something like..... Caney is most fished tailwater in the state, highest catch ratio in the state, but only 1 out 4 fishermen caught fish.

Here's the link to RSimm's article in the Chattanoogan newspaper. Your best bet is to email/write TWRA directly.

At the risk of exposing myself as a dummy (again)  :-\  .........what does PLR stand for in the proposed Caney regulations changes?

"Rainbow and brook trout-14-20 inches PLR with 1 fish over 20 inches"

Thanks,

Gus

I believe it is "Protected Length Range" meaning you can't keep anything unless it is under 14 or over 20.

I sent my comment to the address in the article.  TWRA.Comment@tn.gov

My note went out like this:

Just a note to let you all know that I support the following proposed regulation changes on the Caney Fork River:

*Caney Fork River
Rainbow and brook trout-14-20 inches PLR with 1 fish over 20 inches
Brown Trout-22 inches Minimum Length Limit (MLL) with 1 fish over,
(changed from 18-inches MLL with two over)

I would also strongly support the following:

*Increasing the agency recommended 22 inches to a 24-inch minimum length limit on brown trout on the Caney Fork River with one fish allowed over 24 inches
*Also, on the Caney Fork, the TWRC Fisheries Committee will consider changing the daily creel limit from seven to five trout per day, per person.

The Caney is a good fishery.    I believe it could become a great fishery and trophy trout water if we get behind these slot limits and larger fish rules.

Thank you for reading.
