Wading jacket - recommendations?
« on: September 10, 2009, 04:27:10 PM »
I'm needing a new wading jacket, any recommendations?  I know the Simms are the bomb, but might be a bit out of my price range...  I'm curious to know of any good jackets any of you may have found.

Thanks,

The Simms is much lighter, and alot more repellant(doesn’t get soaked on the outside) but the Cabalas Gore Tex wading jacket I had served me well for several years.

Find the necessary funds and pick up a Simms ... It will last long enough to warrant the extra coin ... I've had mine now for 7 years and counting ...

I'm on my 2nd Patagonia SST, they replaced the 1st one after 10 years use, it had faded to tan on the back from use & the liner on the inside was coming apart, figured it cost me $30 a year to wear, whether Simms, Patagonia or another brand, spending the money on a quality jacket insures you many comfortable days in the not so comfortable weather.
Then again, if you aren't comfortable, i'll have more water to myself ;)

I have an SST I have had since the late 90's and it is still going strong. Bought a Simms from RonS last year that I like as well.

Save and spend the extra money, you won't be disappointed.

What they said....I made the mistake of buying a backup Bass Pro XPS? Gore Tex Jacket and thought it would last me a while....The Gore membrane wore out and leaked in less than 2 seasons, and the style is no longer available...(no chance of returning it).

Patagonia has replaced my SST from 2000 this year, and the Jacket held strong and waterproof for all those years of abuse.  I was shocked at the price tag of $425, but atleast I didn't have to pay for it.

My advice...stick with a good company that stands behind their product.

(You may want to go on Ebay or Sierra and look at an older style than this years version...you could save some $$, and they may still provide repairs?)
