Hey Streamer guys

David's Brown Trout Candy (awesome fly by the way David) brought up a question.

How do you guys who use half dozen or a dozen or more in a day fishing dry them all before returning them to the fly box. It would seem they may take a while to dry out completely.

I am just getting my feet wet in the streamer world so this may seem like a silly question.

Generally, I have a fly patch in a lid on my boat that I place the wet flies on so that they can dry and then put them back in the proper box.

If just wading, possibly consider an extra Morell type box since it light, to store them wet while you are fishing, then leave it open when you get home.

Something like this for a boat.

Go to the kitchen section of Walmart, and look for the small water-tight snap lid containers.  I usually grab about a dozen of the flies I intend to use for the day and keep it in one of these boxes.  When I'm fishing, the box stays in the open of the boat or in my shoulder pack, so I can access it quickly without digging through dry bags etc.  At the end of the day, I dump all the flies out and press them dry with a paper towel and let them dry out before storing them back in the larger fly boxes.

here is another version of the fly



I "ring" the water out of a fly and try not to get bit ;D place it in one of these on my boat, I don't streamer fish much wading since I got a boat.

All great suggestions.  I buy the cheap little all purpose plastic boxes and punch a few small air holes in them and keep one in my vest for use during the day.  As I change flies, the wet fly goes into that box and a dry comes out of my main fly box.  Once the days used flies have dried thoroughly back home, only then do they go back to the main fly box...

I had heard from somewhere you can use thos sillica packets that come in packages or clothing to rid the moisture. Throw it in the box with the flies and it would take the moisture out.

Anyone ever tried that?

some of the flies us "boatpeople" use are as big as most boxes in a regular vest ;)  :o

I normally ring and or shake out the excess water from a fly and either stick it to the bill of my hat or into a fleece patch ... or if I am in my kayak (I'm not one of the boating crowd just yet), onto a patch in the rear cargo area of the yak ... I then layout the "used" flies on a paper towel when I get home ... Letting them dry before putting them back in their appropriate flybox ...

I have in the past put a wet fly back into a fly box while wading ... I just make sure unload the the entire flybox and let all of the flies dry for a day or two before reloading the box ...

First off I'd stay away from "waterproof" fly boxes. They are great at holding water in but not so great at holding it out in my experience. I usually just throw all mine in one of the storage boxes in my boat and about once every month or so I’ll discover them. It makes for a pleasant surprise.

For the little flies the Streamworks fly drier is the bomb. Bill Price talked me into buying one and I love it just like he said I would.

Like Mike, I throw used wet flies in the bottom of a boat compartment where I later discover them. I don't fish many streamers though because I just don't do much count on them. :-\

travis, i like to carry a minerature blow drier attatched to my hat for easy access and the ultimate zonker drying experience. try the conair z54fx. good stuff.

so i had a guy today ask if we had and fish finders that told you if a fish was pregnant or some shit like that, i wanted to send him to you so bad
