CS4, HOLY COW!!!!
« on: October 27, 2009, 08:08:42 PM »
Well I got my hands on CS4 and it has the Sony RAW converter. It's amazing! It allows you to edit raw files with spot remover, graduated fliters, crop, straighten, and lots of other edits plus all the other RAW settings, I can tell from just 15 min with this program that this will open alot of new opportunities for the A700. I'll be shooting in Raw or cRAW from now on when I want to get max results. Time for that 16 gig CF card!

that seems to be one of the softwares of choice for a lot of folks...a tad bit expensive for a hobbyist but who knows.  Which one did you get Mike?  I was reading about it based on input over on dyxum and it looks pretty attractive as far as what it can do.

Leo I got CS4 and yes it is expensive..................  8) I had CS2 so I mainly wanted the new ADOBE RAW converter for Sony but had no idea how good it really is. Just FWIW the Sony software really sucks. Love the camera, hate the software.

Yep, finding that out!  The Sony software is pretty limited.  the RAW converter is about all I use on it, and now i don't even use that as it doesn't agree with Vista!

Leo, oftentimes you can get on Craigslist and buy an earlier version, say CS2 - maybe all the way back to the PS series, for a greatly reduced price, then buy an upgrade - but there are a few problems with upgrades if you have to reinstall and don't have the original disks of the earlier version.   There was a guy with CS3 at a great price about a month ago.  You also have to make sure that what you buy is upgradable to CS4.  If it wasn't for the Sony RAW converter, there is not that much diff between CS4 and CS3 to justify anything but an upgrade  - nothing groundbreaking.  For Nikon owners, CS3 was our Upgrade with the Nikon RAW converter.
