Winter Stocking Schedule
« on: November 13, 2009, 04:08:41 PM »
TWRA warmwater winter stocking schedule is now posted at:

http://www.state.tn.us/twra/fish/StreamRiver/stockedtrout/stockedtrout.html

The best (2) things about winter stocking is:

1) You can find a place to trout fish close to home

2) You don't have to worry about generating and sluicing schedules.

Go for it!

The worse 2 things about winter stocking is:

1) Having "Del Monte Jigs" drug across and tangled up in your fly line

2) You have to watch your backcast while fishing shoulder-to-shoulder in a combat style.

I'm just kidding.  There are some nice spots in which to hit some stocked trout.  I have a few secluded places I like to hit every spring and always enjoy fishing them...

Cheers,

Yes toddro, it can be frustrating, but I, like you, have found some great places and, more importantly, have learned when to go, and how to stay away from the "crowd".
It gets much better later in the winter / spring when the fish get thinned out, as in cleaned and eaten, fewer people fish, and the trout get spread out over a larger area.
I really enjoy the "season".

ps....for others reading this, if you are easily stressed out over a lot of hungry fishers that are out to catch their dinner, then it is not for you.

I prefer to wait until the Spring stocking of the small streams.  Many of these fish can be caught well into June and July and the stockings take place further away from urban areas so there is less of a zoo-circus atmosphere when fishing...
