Orvis Silver Label Fly Lines
« on: October 24, 2009, 05:39:12 PM »
I hope you guys don't mind me posting this (I don't fish as often as most of you, so I don't write much--but I do enjoy reading everyone else's posts), but I wanted to put in a good word about the Orvis Silver Label Lines. I was in Chicago recently and visited the Orvis shop off of Michigan. They were having a pretty nice sale and so I picked up some fly lines they had marked down to $19.99 to put on some older reels I had recently acquired. One was a DT 4 and the other a WF 6.

My lines of choice have been Wulff TTs or SA GPXs. I put new GPXs on my go to reels this year, but SA has screwed with the coating, taper, or both, and this newest incarnation sucks. That said, the Orvis lines I just bought are fantastic. I've fished them on a couple of cane rods and the line diameter is narrow enough that they slide through the guides without any trouble. The coating is didymo slick. And they float as well as anything else I have ever tried. I have since looked around to see if I could find more at the $20 price, but can't; the best I've found since is $29.99. Even so, for $30, and IMHO, they can't be beat as backup lines--and even as a primary. If your in the market, they are definitely worth a look.
