Caddis, Sulpher, Shad, Egg, Midge, bikini, Sasquatch, etc.
For me a good Sulpher hatch was some of my most fun with a fly rod. I’ve heard all about the Locust hatch but missed it every time.

Since I haven't got the chance to fish the Caddis or Sulphurs yet would be the Cicada's.
2011 will be the next hatch of the 13 year Cicada's.

Funny,I have hit 2 cicada/locust hatches and both times the fishing was terrible and I did not even see any rises.
Both times the rivers were high and off color.

When I was living in Michigan, the sulpher hatch was by far my favorite ... though there was a sorority near Grayling, MI that hosted an annual "ca-nuding" trip right in late August before their fall semester ...

I enjoy two because one usually follows the other. The canoe hatch followed by my favorite, the bikini.

Caddis hatch I`ve seen it so thick you couldn`t open your mouth, or you couldn`t tell your fly from the real thing . Montana has the best Mothers day Caddis hatch around.

Definitely the hex hatch here in Michigan.
June for the Au Sable or Manistee and big browns.
August for the Huron and big smallies.

17 year Cicada hatch. Unbelievable the summer before last. Imagine the entire tree covered steep bank filled with the buzz and chatter of singing bugs.
Then imagine under every hanging leaf covered limb...a pod of smallies 1-4 lbs smacking the surface or sipping the fallen bugs like trout rises to midges.
We had three summer afternoons of bliss. Almost every drift by the bank would get a hit. I'll be counting down the next fifteen years, and checking the trees for bugs when the time comes again!
