4wt. reel recommendation

I just bought an 8' 4wt. Scott rod that I found a great deal on and I'm looking for a reel to put on it.  I'm wanting to make this as light-weight of a set-up as possible to take a step down from my main rig, which is a Scott 5pc. / 5wt. fiberglass rod that has travelled the world with me....

I've been looking at a Lamson Velocity 1.5 (4 oz.), but I don't know if it might feel too big on the rod since it is a large-arbor design.  I tried a Scott 1650, but it felt bulky.  Another contender is the Orvis Bar Stock II (3.6 oz.) which is a Small Arbor that looks really sweet, or a Ross Cimmaron 1 or Flywater 1 (4oz. and 4.8oz.) which seem to be more of a "Mid-Arbor" design and have great reputations.

I'd sure appreciate any input from the experts out there on a reel to make this a rockin' lightweight, high-performance set-up.

Best I remember the Orvis BBS is the lightest reel you can get for around $100. I have three and haven’t had any issues.

Hardy's JLH series has a nice 4wt.... They don't seem as over designed as most American reels.

Hey Toddro...seems like you are having a heck of a time finding a reel for that Scott..so if you like, I will take the rod off your hands for you!     ::)

Actually, I do have a JLH 2/3/4 Hardy that is already set up with a new Wulf TT 4WF, neat little reel and I really don't use it that much (once I think since I got it) .  I fish my Bougle most of the time or one of my other Hardies or Orvis reels.  PM me if you are interested in it.

dleo, this is actulayy a new rod, different than the one I contacted you about.  Once I get it rigged up, I'll get my 5wt. 5 piece over to you for some re-hab work.  I've got a winter trip up to Idaho planned in Feb, so I'll try to get it to you in time to get it back for that trip...

Thanks for the offer on the Hardy, I don't know much about their reels, but I'll check into it!


Mike - do your BBS reels take up line fast enough for your liking?

uh wait a minute, that setup sounds familiar, let me do a headcount on my JLH's :o
If you're willing to shell out the bucks for a Lamson, ya might wait til next month & checkout the Marksman from Hardy, no drag, light as al get out.
The BBS reels are nice/light with enough drag to slow most fish down or pop a tippet one.
The JLH's, sweet as they come with a click/pawl drag, i need to count mine first, it maybe one that came off my 4 weight Leo picked up & snapped into 5 pieces, he dosen't like Scott rods & in my pain/suffering, he may have relieved me of my reel :o

Yep, i have all 3 reels ordered, 2/3, 3/4, 4/5. They are supposed to be available in January.
I was going to order some spare spools & found out they were only $80 cheaper than the complete reel :o

Heck, thats about all that reel is..take the spool away and isn't much left...

I liked Jose's reel...Pepsi bottle with couple hunnert yards of 30 lb test!!
