Melton Hill Muskies
« on: February 20, 2010, 12:27:58 AM »
Me and Rusty hit Melton Hill today.  TWRA was out shocking and they netted two nice Muskies where we were fishing.  Rusty hooked up with one Musky and due to equipment failure it got off at the boat.  About an hour later the lucky SOB hooked up with another one the was much larger and this time we got it in the boat.  Pics were on my cell phone because we both forgot our cameras but it was a nice fly caught Musky.  I had a couple of follows to the boat and we saw several more nice fish.  The bite seemed to be better when the sun was overhead.  It made for some awesome sight fishing with at least 5-10 ft visibility.  I hope T Wiles is OK because we still have not heard from him after sending him a phone pic as soon as the fish was landed. ;D

Nice one guys.

Great work Guys...That's Awesome!

Gear is Packed and ready for Friday --Saturday--maybe  Sunday.

Even if the wind is blowin 40mph....my ass will be there!
I was cruising my boat up and down the Noli on Saturday...spotting plenty of suckers and smallies (AKA Musky Food) But I never spotted one of those gnarly fish.  I got the fever bad....Crystal is worried ;)
See you guys this weekend.

Windburnt face, dry cracked hands and stripping finger, sore shoulders and back.....

It was worth it.  One hooked and lost in battle, and atleast 4 follows.  This wet my appetite on the quest to get one of these gators on a fly.  Maybe March will be the month  ::).

Thanks John and Rusty,  Crystal and I had a great time.

The number of very large fish stacked up here is just silly. Be prepared and don't overplay the fish, they have enough to worry about getting through all the live bait fishermen. There's some real dinos here - it's not the time for pissing with 6wts. Treat them with the respect due an alpha predator. We're blessed to have one of the singularly best muskie fisheries in the country in our backyard, hats off to TWRA for making it so.

Rusty is thinking catch and release but that dog is licking its lips like it was thinking catch and the grease.

Good one Guys. I may try to get out this weekend myself.
