Slow Day on the Elk
« on: April 10, 2010, 07:55:06 PM »
Spent a good portion of the day at Tims Ford and Ferris Creek... both VERY slow.  Fly rod folks didn't do well at all, bait and spin folks were slow as well.

Beautiful day.... but the fish didn't want to play.

Ralph, things were slow this afternoon, Wednesday, April 21, also.
I knew it was going to be slow when I arrived at the Hwy 50 bridge and had the whole river to myself, from the bridge to the deep hole and river bend downstream.
I did get a little action for about an hour on a small white soft hackle.
That was it. Seven very small brown trout.
The water clarity looked good. The water temperature was 47 degrees.
There were a lot of leaves and tree trash on the water. It was kind of like fishing in the smokeys in the fall. That made it a little difficult.
But, all that said, it was a beautiful day to be on the river and in solitude. You don't get that very often.

Well.... never say die!!!!  I'm going up Wed or Thurs to see if I can't get these critters off their duff!  You know it's bad when there's no one there... although I seem to remember one day like that that I ended up with about 50 fish released.
