2 Browns at Night/ 2 Bows during the Day
« on: May 23, 2010, 05:05:03 PM »
Had a chance to sneak off to the river to fish with my brother on Thursday night...and found 2 nice browns on large streamers.  Yesterday, after a last minute change of plans, I took the Crawdad to fish solo on high water for 2 hours--I was rewarded with two fat bows that pulled like freight trains.

It felt good to get back on some trout again...it's been a while since I've chased them.

That last bow looks like  a freight train I m sure he did pull like one
The more I fish the more I realize it isn t about the fishing.  The older I get the more I realize it is about the moments God has hand crafted just for me.

Wow!! Those are some Huge Browns!  What weight rod are you throwing those giant streamers with?  What area of TN are you fishing?

7 and 8 wts, Intermediate Line, 15 lb fluoro ( the last rainbow almost snapped the heavy tippet).
I fish all three legs of the Holston Tailwaters, as well as the Watauga in East TN.

It's taken me a while to get a lead on the big fish haunts in an area that has so many other anglers.  Night time is a great way to beat the crowds... I had both stretches of river without another angler in sight.

The rainbow looks like it was on steroids.  Is the fly one that you tied?  If so, can you tell me how you put it together?  I've just started and am interested in creating some big patterns.

Thanks

Estaz, EP fibers, and Flashabou. (weighted and unweighted)

The body styles, colors and profile combinations are endless.  Just experiment around with different high quality hooks to get the right profiles you're after.  Go sparse rather than over bulk, and test out your ideas, and modify.  I carry a pair of scissors to the water to trim the flies until they dance underwater.
