How can you tell?
Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

It's simple:

Older male trees will have balding on the top and leaves will be various colors.  The female tree refuses to believe she is a mature tree and uses leaf dye in hopes of being confused with a younger tree.
