Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

Wow, I didn't have any idea what was going on.  I was out that way this morning and saw lots of activity but didn't know what was happening.  So sad to hear of this.

The reckless boating problem just keeps growing and growing.  Last weekend I was on Old Hickory in my Gheenoe (my bigger boat is in the shop).  A crew of jackasses in a ski boat thought it would be funny to buzz right by me within about 15 feet so that the guy skiing could lean over and sling water all over me.  Then they all took off, pointing and laughing, knowing my little 15 horse Merc had no way to catch up to them.  I tried to get close enough to get their boat numbers when the guy came off the skis and they picked him up, but they had another boat with them that I didn't see, and it cut right in front of me (less than 10 feet off my bow) at full speed and threw a wake that forced me to slow down while the other boat got up and out of there.

I'm glad I didn't have a gun, because I was mad enough that I would have put some holes in their hull.  Just a bunch of young kids in fast boats that thought it was reeeeeal funny to harass a little fishing boat and then zip off out of range, but someone easily could have been killed with that kind of stunt.

Pleasure boaters are ruining every damn fishery I go to.

I haven t said anything about the reckless boating till now.  I can t  force myself to hold my tongue anymore I have seen people put themselves and me in danger to many times over the past few years on the water.  I honesly believe that it is going to do nothing but get worse.  It seems like everyone has a boat jet ski or something now days that they can be ignorant on the water in. I believe the boating situation is getting worse due to a few different reason the main reason being dads aren t teaching thier sons the general rule and respect to be shown on the water. The second is the inablity to enforce safe boating practices. I use to tell myself that they have the same rights to the water that I do.......   The past few years shave changed my mind on that. I dont  believe they have the same rights to the water as I do if they won t boat in a safe manner showing respect to the others using the water.  There are 3 things I never go on the water without now days boat insurance my cell and my 38
The more I fish the more I realize it isn t about the fishing.  The older I get the more I realize it is about the moments God has hand crafted just for me.

Well just saw this update via Doug Markham's facebook - copy and pasted:

Doug Markham  Hate to say it, but we have apparently had another boating accident involving two anglers on Kentucky Lake near New Johnsonville. A boat has been found with collision damages and the two anglers did not come home last night from their tournament. TWRA is investigating, along with the U.S. Coast Guard. More on this later.

This is turning out to be an incredibly sad year  :'( Regarding the other accident - I know several folks down at Fate Sanders and they are saying there's a really good chance the rec boaters that hit those tourney guys had been drinking - still waiting on blood work to come back but from the sound of it the driver had some booze in his system...
