What a river! Bill and I spent most of our day in his pathfinder driving from the Boro to Snowbird Creek in NC and then up the skyway over into Tellico on an exploratory expedition. I haven’t fished East TN very much at all but I can certainly see that it is worth the drive. If the fish were biting I didn't even notice because I couldn't take my eyes away from the beauty of that place. Few places invoke the kind of feelings this place does. The fishing was almost non existent but I learned some new water and a new place to recharge the soul. I can’t wait to go back, once the water warms a little...

been fishing the Tellico area since 1985, I have tons of great memories from those waters, the Tellico River during stocking season is a zoo, plumb dangerous to drive in the area.  I'd stay away from North River, way to many snakes and banjos playing in the background :)

I enjoy the drive from Tellico River up the North River to Stratton Meadows.

Some of my first fly fishing outings were spent camping and fishing on the North River in my early 80's.  I caught and the released the largest Brookie to date on the North.  I have very fond memories of day fly fishing with Mark Lamberth (sp).  We leap frogged one another all day catching native trout on elk hair caddis.  One of my most enjoyable trips ever.  We need to plan a trip Mike. :)

Thumper I would love to do that sometime. Do you think it's worth driving up there in the winter?

Would love to hear a report for this time of year.

Fished the North River last Spring and had a great success. Fished a half mile stretch with a friend and did most of it on my knees hiding from the trout in stealth mode. Great success with BHPN and Elk Hair Caddis.

Yes it is a well written article packed full (almost too full) of information that extends an open invitation to every fishermen in the spectrum.  Thank goodness most of them won't venture off into some of the more remote parts of the area!!

True and your comment about people not wandering too far...it is a good thing, because they miss all the "good" fishing... ;D
