Dry fly box?
« on: January 10, 2007, 01:35:34 PM »
I've been restocking my boxes all month and now I'm doing the dry box. My dry box is a C&F with the threaders. I usually don't carry alot of dries but this year is going to be different I think (hope). My question is what box is the best for dries? I have 4 of the small C&F's and one of the new waterproof med C&F boxes (which I really like). I've also used the aluminum ones with spring loaded lids and don't care for them. They are too heavy and if you ever drop it on a windy day you can kiss your flies good bye.
What do yall use?

I think the compartment boxes are great for dries, just drop them in & close the lid.
O have the C&F with 12 compartments on one side & 10 rows on the other for nymphs.

Grumpy is that the waterproof C&F and if so do you have one at the shop? I'll take one if you do.

Sold. I'll try to get up there tonight or tomorrow or maybe I'll get Bill to pick it up next time he makes his rounds.

Mike,

I use the DeWitt boxes for this reason. I can see the flies in the box and not have to open the lid.
The flies are loose in the sections.
They are available in many combinations. For regular trout flies .
One l choose to use is app 7x3x 3/4 and has 18 compartments.
For larger flies, such as hoppers, stones etc there are options with 6 and  8.
They are very light, strong and float real well.

Boxes that hold dries by the hook, l dislike as hackles can be distorted, and nothing  worse than a dry that does not sit right when being fished.
