I will be camping and fishing along the Duck Thursday-Sun with a group (about a dozen).  We plan to spread out and hit different floats each day.  A few flyfisherman but mostly gear chuckers looking for some fall smallmouth and spotted bass action.  Most of the group will be fishing in kayaks and canoes.

If anybody wants to join us, just send me a pm and I will get you the information on the campground and such.

Just got a call from my buddy Drew Gregory (goose attack video).  Anyway he is bring a prototype of his new kayak (Jackson Coosa) for anybody to try out.

The Coosa definitely looks like a cool boat--standing up in a kayak would be a blast for effective sight fishing.  Hope the weather works out, and you guys have a great gathering.

Had blast.  Weather was pleasant.  Flows were low, made for lots of paddling.

Gobs and gobs of small bass.  No bream, and only a few large rock bass (9" and 13").  Had to work hard for midsize bass (14-17").  Flood (Nashville flood of the spring) has really changed things.  IMO it knocked out most of the large bass and wiped out the bream.  No worries as the future looks bright as there are tons of smaller fish in the river.  Also with the low water and the riffles being uniform, some sections did not fish that well, especially below Columbia.

Nice report and smallmouth photo! I have always wanted to explore that river a bit more.

Thats a shame normally the area below the dam to Chickasaw Trace had a good population of smallies.  I haven t floated that stretch this year though.  Thats a shame since my familys house is a couple of blocks from the dam

I have plans to fish it alot more this coming year with the jet sled.

That is exactly what I floated, expecting some nice size bass because it has fished well for me in the past.  We had to work extremely hard to catch anything over 12".  It seemed like the floods dumped a lot of sediment even in the riffles.  Very uniform and very little structure.  Also almost no current areas excluding the first mile below the dam. We (3 of us) did pull a 18" largemouth and two 15" spots and one similar sized smallmouth but for 8+ hours of fishing I expected more.

Up river areas fared better.  Riffles had lots of larger gravels and even the slow current areas were devoid of fine sediment.
