Mid to upper lake is on fire. Find the Shad and you'll be in the fish. My daughter and I had a blast yesterday catching small Hybrids and white bass. I was just out testing the boat and took along a couple spinning rods. This time of year inline spinners work great or small shad raps. I lost my only spinner to a big Hybrid so I let my daughter have all the fun. She says she sees what it is that makes me fish all the time now.

. I may have a new fishing buddy.
I hope to head back today and bring a fly rod this time. Something to keep in mind when you are out there is that these fish have tons of food and they can get picky. These are this years shad crop and they are small so keep your offerings small. If your flies aren't working don't be a peckerhead and refuse to spin fish. Catching these fish on light spinning gear and 6 pound test is about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. If fish are blowing up all around you and you aren't catching them at least every other cast change something.
Early morning is the absolute best time to be there. Get there (there = a place where you know the shad are) before sunup and wait. When the light hits the surface things will get interesting. The top water bite is awesome in the morning. After it settles down you might find some active fish but it's usually slow until afternoon.
