One lucky squirrel!
« on: November 08, 2010, 01:18:02 PM »
Spent the weekend chasing toothy critters, and on Sunday afternoon was drifting along next to the bank when there was a loud SPLASH next to the boat --  I turned around to find that a squirrel had misjudged a jump between branches and dropped about 30-40' from treetop to the water. In a river jam-packed with muskies, he'd landed in one of the shallowest parts of the reach, and swam to shore without incident!

We had a great day on Sat, but the bluebird skies on Sunday shut down the bite. Finally figured out that some issues I'd been having with hookups were due to using curved point Owner tarpon hooks; they went away when we switched to the same patterns on a wide gap Owner with a straight point. Lesson learned...

At least you figured out your issue! Hopefully that will help with hookups.

The squirrel got a lucky break.

Dave have you tried the Tiemco 600SP hooks?

The squirrel got a lucky break.

The squirrel has to fall out of a tree ten thousand times before a muskie bites him.  Even then, the muskie is likely to just follow him to shore and then ignore him unless he swims in a figure 8 at just the right moment.
