propcheck

"propcheck" is a term used in the west coast lakes and river on a boat , to act like your checking the prop (while motor off) hang back of boat after alot of brewskies  ;D  haa

this is my scouting vessel that i built 3 yrs ago, i used to race skis back in the early mid 90s in the ocean. i have always wanted to put these in a small alum boat, but there was no place for it where i grew up. i miss skimming the ski on the beach in toe deep water on sand.

the alignment of the jet to the hull is half inch off, which causes the bow to dig at higher speeds above 18mph, so i just cruise at 1/8 throttle which gets awsome gas milage.i am too lazy to fix it.as the result of the misalignment, it can take off at shallow water, at around 10" . it suprisingly gets awsome gas milage, it goes from so. carthge to bettys  in about a gallon of gas,but it needs race gas.it has no intake grate,so i can access impeller. last late summers sechedule on cany was the shallowest iv seen, 24hrs of no gen when they had the 9am-11am schedule. the shallowest part is 3-4 inches of big wide shoal w no way around it. i hit bottom cause i hesitated,(i wished i had the alignment fixed so i can goose the throttle wot) and hesitation will get you in trouble....you gotta commit to you run.  reading the water is very important in new waters,on a shoal, tightly woven ripples =shallow, wide ripples =deeper, white caps on a ripple and white water is difficult to read, i suggest to walk it before shooting through. happy fun jetting.

How deep does that thing draft when drifting?

The two other jetski conversions I have seen have both been extremely heavy on the stern.

when drifting over shallow shoals it will draft around 6-7", since im sitting in the front with the trolling motor, it levels the boat. where you see the top of the jet comp. is where the water line is. i have to lift the trolling motor up to the surface to control the drift in tight shallow runs, anything shallower or fast tight runs, i start the motor and shoot it, but with two people add a inch or so.
