Hey Jarrod!
« on: May 29, 2011, 03:18:36 PM »
Jarrod, I think I fished your dream stream yesterday!!!  I was up on Trammel Fork in Kentucky, and I guess it's peak mating season for the snakes around there.  I waded under a willow tree, and I guess there was a "mating ball" of snakes up in the tree somewhere, because I brushed against a branch and it was like someone dumped a bucket full of water snakes over my head.  Then I took two steps, and another bucket full of snakes dropped out of the branches into the creek all around me.

If I had a way of knowing those snakes would still be there on another day, I would go to some pretty great lengths to trick you into wading under that tree while Mike and I stood back with a couple cameras.

thank you BD for keeping me in mind  :-\ as far as the snakes getting on me, I am not sure you would want to be around when that happens :)

Ah the fishing was kind of slow.  I caught four trout and about half a million creek shiners.  The shiners do make the trout more enjoyable in a way - when you connect with an 8-inch trout after setting the hook on about a hundred two-inch shiners, the trout feels like a ten pounder by comparison.  Of course, two of the trout were about 3 inches long themselves - disappointing in size, but also neat in a way because they don't stock them that small, which means Trammel must have gotten a tiny bit of successful natural reproduction recently.  The other two trout were about 8 inches and probably stockers - the only decent sized trout I saw was about 15 inches and he tried to eat my indicator instead of the fly, so I never got a hook close to him.  I only fished a few hours though.  Trammel doesn't fish as well as the Caney when the Caney is good, but it's not far from home, and it's a passable alternative when all of the other trout water is blown out.
