TFO warranty is amazing!

A big thanks to TFO. I broke my BVK weekend before last and put it the mail this past Saturday, it was at the front door this afternoon.

They also returned my $25 check with the rod.

That is some good customer service!

Yes Sir!!! thats why i buy TFO and not G Loomis, i used to be a big Loomis fan, but since Shitmano bought them out the warranty sux!!!

I have casted a TFO for 5 years?  Why you ask..... Well, I broke a TFO two days before going to FL, ( 3 years ago).  I called TFO told them the story and before I made it to my destination i was called and told I had a delivery. 

Great to have a company stand by its product.

I have to disagree.  I was worried when G. Loomis discontinued their Xpeditor service, since I fish a lot of G. Loomis rods.  However, this spring I broke a rod tip when a hookset went into an overhanging tree branch.  I sent it in as a non-warranty repair, figuring I'd have to pay for it, which was totally fair since the break was due to my own mistake anyway.  However, they replaced it quickly and free of charge.  I was fishing again with my rod in 2 weeks. 

I have absolutely no complaints about G. Loomis customer service.  As far as I'm concerned they're top of the line.

Maybe it is just me, but I much rather buy a rod at a fair price rather than pay 3x as much for a lifetime warranty.  I am also of the opinion, that unless the rod breaks on the first fish caught, it has been abused/misused by the user in some manner.  

Yes, I have broken rods, all have been my fault.  I also have more rods that I have not broken than than that have broken.  Warranties cost the consumers money, IMO.

It depends on what you mean by "fair price."  When the decent no-warranty fly rods are running nearly $200.00, I would rather just go ahead and pay the big bucks and get the warranty as part of the deal.  Back in my gear fishing days I'd replace a $50 to $75 rod without a second thought, but when you're talking about a couple hundred bucks, that's a lot of pain for a fishing rod - especially when tips on flyrods are so fragile.  One errant cast with a shot and indicator rig on a windy day and you're done.

"fair price"= price to make, plus normal mark-up, with no window etching fee, extra undercoat, or any additional insurances. :D

Really why should I pay 2x-3x the "fair price" for say a 4wt flyrod that I might use 4 times a year, while you on the other hand plan to throw double nymph rig 40 times a year (and have no problem fitting your rod through a car door).   I am not only being charged more, but in the fictitious example, I am also subsiding your use/abuse.  

Maybe we can get the rod companies to sell at "bfish" price, but allow one to buy into upgrade warranty program with a "bd" add-on (for those that deem a no fault/no question asked warranty a necessity).

I like high end rods, but they have priced themselves out of my price range (yea I am pouting).  It sort of erks me that some claim great "customer" service when in actuality they have already paid for the replacement (and in most cases the replacement rod's replacement too).

I don't know who you are Bfish, but by god it sounds like you knows who BD is.  ;D ;D ;D That guy can break more equipment then then a pair of steel toed boots in a nut kicking contest.

TFO has been solid for me - replaced four different sections over time on my rods, all returned within a week or two.  They did replace an incorrect section last time, but I just called and told the gal they overlooked the missing guide on the section I wanted replaced and she sent it to me right away without my having to send it back to them.  But what I want to know is how to get them to send me the $25.00 check back!!

Hell, if you're only fishing your rod 3 or 4 times a year, buy a $30 one at Academy Sports.  It's not going to make that much of a difference.

it always amazes me how people seem to have everything figured out  :-\ I think it is very simple answer, if TFO, Loomis, sage or eagle claw is what fits your budget, then that is what you need to buy. I don't see how anybody can decide what is a fair price on anything, especially something in a market as small as flyfishing. I have several fly rods of all brands and I fish a lot, but I have broken very few rods to be repaired on warranty . I think in my lifetime around 7 , so does that mean I am helping keep the cost down.

              If anybody finds a fair price on a brand new 4x4 diesel truck let me know........

Haven't had to deal with TFO on the broken rod scenario yet and hope I never do. Glad you had a great experience.

I'll raise a glass to TFO after this past weekend.  I picked up a new TFO TiCR 5wt for father's day, only to get home and find that two of the guides had snapped at the thread/epoxy.  I called TFO yesterday morning and explained what happened to the service rep (dude named Brandon -- awesome guy).  He gave me two options: take it back where I bought it or send it to him.  I didn't want to deal with driving back to the store (since it was in Charlotte), so he put a brand new rod in the mail after our conversation.  No $25 fee, and I could ship him the busted rod when I got a chance.  Now THAT'S customer service.  I also got an email about an hour later with the tracking info.  I checked the tracking this morning and my new rod is in Memphis and should be on my doorstep tomorrow morning.

I'll spend $200 any day on a rod that directly competes with the $500-$700 rods and has a customer service rep that doesn't speak with a foreign accent.  Nothing against non-American folk, I just don't want to talk to someone in Bombay about a rod I want repaired/replaced.

Well hell, Jarrod, that's about how many fly rods I've broken, give or take a couple, and I allegedly "break more equipment than a pair of steel toed boots in a nut kicking contest."  That's hardly fair.   :'(

Many years ago before I started fly fishing and I was still fishing with cheap conventional gear, I did have one year where I broke several Wal-Mart rods.  But that was mostly attributed to one single trip where I dropped an anchor on my casting deck and it landed on my rod holder, breaking six in one instant.  Besides, none of those were warrantied, so it was just an expensive year for $50 rods and not germane to the flyrod warranty issue.
