Elk river Sun.
« on: April 10, 2006, 01:46:13 PM »
I fished the Elk for a couple of hours on Sun. I must really suck because I only got a couple of fish in a couple of hours. It was very slow for me and I didn’t see a lot of fish being caught by others either. I did see a pair of Owls in a hollowed out tree. They were just a few yards away and had I not elected to leave my camera in the truck I would be posting a picture of one of Owl feeding a mouse to another adult Owl that was in the nest. Owls are not a real common site around here especially when there is enough light to get a decent shot. I kicked myself all the way to the truck to get my camera. Of course when I returned they were nowhere to be seen!
BTW, does anybody fish the creek that runs beside the road and merges into the elk at the parking lot??? I would bet there are some good fish in that little creek if it stays cool in the summer.

I spent all weekend just scouting around in the Winchester, Lynchburg, Monteagle, area and I really enjoyed it! That area is a cruisers paradise for sure. We went up to Sewanee University and I was amazed at the beauty of that place. Again I neglected to bring my camera so I didn't get any shots. We stopped to eat in Monteagle (I think) at a place called 4 seasons. Ohh my Gawd! Fried/grilled catfish, fried chicken, mashed taters, turnips, shrimp, dressing, green beans, peach and cherry cobbler, everything you could imagine and all of it was cooked like mom used to do it!!

All in all it was a fun weekend even if I didn’t fish much. I’m fond of this area and I plan to do a lot more exploring up there since my buddy just bought a house on the lake about .5 miles from the Dam. :)

It's looking like this weekend won’t get blown out by a flood, tornado,Hail storm, Hurricane, or cold front, so I am looking forward to fishing under stable conditions.  ::)

I have been thinking about that one and the Duck below Normandy.  The TWRA creel survey led to some interesting info on the Duck. I am thinking when others are generating, it might be a good option.

I'm glad you got out this weekend.  I was out of town, wishing I was fishing.  Won't be much great outdoors for me the next couple of weeks. My night man is going on vacation, I'll be covering the store from bell to bell.

Hope you guys wear them out.
Yesterday, I was at the bottom. I was at the bottom of a valley, in the river. Then my eyes hiked up the mountains to the snow capped peaks. I thought, "When I am at this lowest place I can be, standing in a river, everything is looking up."
